Speech recognition, also referred to as “voice recognition”, is a computer recognizing what a person says.  This adaptive technology gives you a revolutionary way to control your computer in addition to, or instead of the keyboard and mouse.

Today’s speech recognition programs can achieve a general recognition accuracy of up to 99%.  This means that these software programs enable the computer to understand speech well, including heavy accents.  General accuracy, alone, is not enough to enable hands-free computer control of complex tasks.

Speech Recognition Customization (SRC) enables you to accomplish complex tasks that are specific to your needs.  Electronic Brain Machine (EBM) can customize speech recognition to be used with virtually any Windows/PC based program.

Anyone who wants to use a computer hands-free is a candidate for SRC.  It is not limited to persons symptomatic of, suffering from, or recovering from repetitive stress injuries (RSI).  SRC can significantly increase efficiency and productivity, enable you to meet doctor-ordered computer-related work restrictions, and help to prevent RSI.

  • Global remote consultations.   Not only can we provide global remote consultation, we can also enble you to use this technology by speech.

  • Precise mouse control.   Precisely move, drag, and click (left or right click) the mouse in one speech command.

  • Advanced keystroke control.   Press a sequence of keys (including Ctrl, Shift, Alt, WinKey) in one speech command.   You can also, with one speech command, hold down any control key while executing separate speech commands, and then use another one to release the key.

  • Advanced text editing.   Another powerful tool for word processing, e-mailing, and software development. For example, you can select a line of text, cut it, and then paste it on another line, all in one speech command.

  • Create DNS speech commands by speech.   EBM has developed an advanced set of speech commands that we use ourselves for creating DNS speech commands.

  • Speech-driven help system.   Help is just a speech command away!


The Speech Recognition Customization Process     [ Top ]

The speech recognition customization process begins with an initial evaluation between a client and an Electronic Brain Machine speech recognition specialist.  

EBM evaluates the work environment, computer’s hardware, software programs used, and program features used most often.  EBM uses this data to create a Plan of Customization (POC), which includes a prioritized list of tasks that the client needs to accomplish hands-free, and a good estimate of the time required by EBM to speech-enable these tasks.  

Upon approval of the POC, EBM will provide the client with a starter set of custom speech recognition commands, and a supplemental guide for complete reference.  During the SRC consultations, clients have at their disposal the expertise of the EBM speech recognition specialists.  SRC consultations can be conducted through the internet via EBM's remote desktop sharing program, or at the client’s location (travel fees apply).  

The client will receive the commands that were outlined in the POC at a rate that is accommodating to the client’s schedule and learning pace.  Following the completion of the POC, EBM will provide a hard copy and a soft copy of all custom commands outlined in the POC, as well as a detailed progress report.

Computer Hardware and Software Requirements for Speech Recognition     [ Top ]

Minimum Requirements:

• Operating System: Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, 2003, or XP
• Processor: Intel P3 500MHz (or equivalent AMD)
• RAM: 384MB (256MB free)
• Hard Drive: 1.5GB free hard disk space
• Soundcard: 16Bit Creative Labs Soundblaster or compatible soundcard
• Microphone: Noise-canceling microphone


Recommended Configuration:

• Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Pro (or most recent Professional version)
• Processor:(a) AMD64 3700+ (or greater), or (b) Intel P4 3.0GHz (or greater) w/1MB (or greater) Cache w/ 800MHz FSB.
• RAM: 1GB – 2GB (depending on applications used) of quality memory (such as Crucial DIMMs)
